If you’ve been feeling unclear, distracted, or unsure about your next step… this episode is your reset.
Because focus doesn’t start with doing more.
It starts with hearing God clearly.
In this first episode of our May series, Focus, April Nova Scipio walks you through what it looks like to slow down, quiet the noise, and return to the voice of God.
When you’re constantly surrounded by opinions, pressure, and comparison, it’s easy to feel scattered—even when your heart is to follow Him.
But God is not silent.
And clarity is not out of reach.
In this episode, you’ll learn:
- Why focus begins with direction, not discipline
- How to recognize when too many voices are creating confusion
- The simple shift that helps you hear God more clearly
- Why obedience—not overthinking—is the key to clarity
This is your invitation to pause…
to listen…
and to take your next step with confidence.

Because sometimes it's not that God isn't speaking, it's that his voice is being his voice is being crowded out. It's being crowded out by comparison, fear, social media, pressure to keep up. God's voice, though, it brings peace. Even when it stretches you, it will settle you. By anchoring your identity in Christ and creating rhythms that support how you live. So whether you're navigating transition, rebuilding your foundation, or simply longing for a slower, steadier way forward, the Nova CoPodcast is a space to breathe, realign, and grow. And I am so honored that you are here. We're starting a new series this month all about focus. And so I want you to lean in and really get what God has for you this month. In addition to listening to the podcast, I want to encourage you to join Nova Community. We are a faith community. We are building authentic friendships around God's word. We are supporting, growing each other, and just living a life differently. We're living life authentically. We're living life truly going after everything God has for us. And I want you to be a part of it. You can join the community by clicking on the link in the show notes of this episode. So let's jump into this episode. This episode is all about focus. And in my experience, I know that focus starts with hearing God clearly. Before you can focus your life, your work, or even what your next step is, you have to be clear on what God is actually saying. Because focus doesn't start with discipline, it starts with direction. I need you to hear that today. Focus does not start with discipline, it starts with direction. One of my favorite scriptures in the Bible when it comes to hearing from God is John 10, 27. It says, My sheep listen to my voice, I know them, and they follow me. I love how the scripture says, I know them. It's like the Lord is reminding us that He knows exactly how to speak to us, in what tone, in what way, so we get it, right? Some of us, like me, we need God to just lay it to us straight, direct, like, girl, get yourself together. Some of us, we need that gentler little nudge, like, come on, let's do this. I know you can do it. So, whatever you need and however you need to hear it, God is capable of getting you what you need. He's capable of speaking exactly what you need to hear. So I want you to really stand on this foundation today, that it is possible for you to hear God clearly. There's a lot of quiet frustration, I would say, that a lot of women are carrying right now. Not because they don't love God, not because they don't want to do what He's called them to do, but because they feel unclear. They're trying to move forward, but second-guessing every single step. They're starting things, but not finishing them. They're busy doing all the things, but they're not aligned. And what I've learned is this it's really hard to stay focused when you're not fully confident in what God is telling you and what he's saying. So in today's episode, I actually don't want to talk about doing more. All right. We are gonna go back to the beginning, step one, and we are going to think about hearing God clearly. So I want you to grab your journal. I want you to write this thought down. God is still speaking. You just have to slow down enough to hear him. I'm gonna say that again. God is still speaking. You just have to slow down enough to hear him. Jeremiah 33, verse 3, it says, Ask me, and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come. We say we want clarity, you guys, but we don't always create the space to receive it, right? We fill our days with noise, with scrolling, with options, so many of them, with pressure to figure it out fast. Oh my goodness. Like if I if I'm looking at this list, I would be raising my hand high for that one. And then we wonder why we feel disconnected. We're filling our days. God is not silent, but he is intentional, and so often his voice is heard in stillness, not urgency, not chaos, but in quiet, surrendered moments. Thought number two, I want you to write down Confusion is often a sign of too many voices, not the absence of God's voice. I'm gonna say that again. Confusion is often a sign of too many voices, not the absence of God's voice. First Corinthians 14, 33, for God is not a God of disorder, but of peace. If you feel confused right now, I want you to pause and ask yourself, whose voice have I been listening to? Because sometimes it's not that God isn't speaking, it's that his voice is being his voice is being crowded out. It's it's being crowded out by comparison, fear, social media, pressure to keep up. God's voice though, it brings peace. Even when it stretches you, it will settle you. So what if your hearing is creating pressure, confusion? That's your signal. If what you're hearing is creating anxiety, that's your signal. Pause, reset, return to him. Thought number three, I want you to write down clarity grows through obedience, not overthinking. Clarity grows through obedience, not overthinking. James 122, it says, but don't just listen to God's word. You must do what it says. A lot of us are waiting for full clarity before we take the next step. But that's not how God works. He gives you enough light for the step in front of you. And then clarity increases as you move, not before. So instead of asking God, can you show me everything? Here's a better question. Here's a different question. What is the last thing you told me to do, Lord, that I haven't done yet? That's where your focus begins. There was a season where I kept asking God for clarity about what was next. And y'all, I journaled, I prayed, I listened to messages, I asked for confirmation, but I still felt stuck. And one day I felt the Holy Spirit gently ask me, April, what did I already tell you? Oh man. And I knew there were things he had already spoken that I had delayed, overthought, tried to perfect before I started. And in that moment, I realized, whew, I wasn't lacking clarity. I was avoiding obedience. And everything shifted when I went back and simply did what he already said. In your journal today, I want you to write this question down. What is one thing God has already spoken to you that you have not fully acted on? What has God already spoken to you? What's the one thing God has spoken to you already that you haven't not fully acted on? Let God speak to your heart today. Let him reveal to you what needs to be done. Here's our declaration today. I want you to say this out loud, repeat after me. I hear God's voice clearly. I am not confused. I am being led. I choose to slow down, to listen, and to obey. My focus flows from his direction. And that's our declaration today. I want you to really grab that for yourself. God is going to help us be focused this month, especially as we're tuning in and locking in. But my prayer is that we are able to implement things that will continue for a lifetime. It's so important that we stay focused so we can accomplish all the things God has for us. And that focus starts here, hearing Him clearly. Let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you so much for loving us. Thank you that you are not a distant God or a silent God. You are near and you are always speaking. Help me quiet the noise around me so I can hear you clearly. Give me the discipline to slow down, the sensitivity to recognize your voice, and the courage, Lord, to obey what you've already said. God, we don't want to live distracted. We don't want to live divided. We want to live aligned. God, lead us this week. Help us to follow you with focus and peace. In Jesus' name. Amen. Amen, you guys. This week, don't look for something new. Go back to what God already said and take that one step of obedience. That is where your focus begins. This episode encouraged you, spoke to your heart in any way. I want you to share it out with someone else. Share it with another woman who's been feeling distracted and unclear. And if you're ready to build rhythms that help you hear God and walk with Him consistently, come join my mentorship community, Nova Circle. I'm going to put the link to that as well in the show notes of this episode. Listen, you don't have to figure this out alone. So excited to walk alongside of you. Can't wait to see what God does all month long as we really lean in about focusing. It is time for us to get focused this month. Cannot wait. I love you so much with the love of Christ. I will see you on the next episode. Remember, this is how we live faith first rhythm always. Be blessed. Love you guys.
